Charu Gupta : I'm an avid traveler! I live in Pune city but every chance I get, I get on my pulsar and take off!!!

Zoom Zoom to Lavasa….

Planning to organise something for a fast approaching Women’s Day?

Check out an innovative Women’s day event that Lavasa organized last year, that involved raising awareness about Breast Cancer through a women’s car rally from Mumbai to Lavasa.

Car Rally

Over 1000 women took off in 250 cars starting at 7.00 am on a clear Sunday morning on March 8th, 2009, from the Reclamation grounds near Lilavati Hospital, Bandra to Lavasa.

Flagging off the Lavasa Women’s Drive, held in order to spread cancer awareness – were some of  Bollywood’s biggest names including Ajay Devgan, Fardeen Khan, Gul Panag, Diana Hayden and many others.

What would motivate them to step out in the wee hours of a Sunday morning?

A good cause?

Over 1000 pumped-up women ready to race across cities?

An after-event party?

Whatever be, the motivating factor – this year as well, some more of Bollywood’s finest folks will be out in the wee hours of a Sunday morning, doing the very same thing!

Cheering a bunch of highly-charged women, as they drive 200 kms to the finish line at Lavasa.

Last year’s participants, some of them first-time rallyists, were of the opinion that such events would motivate women to be a part of motor-racing or rallies that are usually considered to be male-dominated sports.

But – Women racing across cities  – would  you call this empowering?

Do you think you could win this year’s Lavasa Women’s drive?

The rally empowers women. I have particpated in the rally last year.My sense of timng saved many rally drivers since the villagers had blocked our road. I m looking forward to participate in the rally this year as well .It's a good event where inyou are driving for a cause of cancer and it basically brings about women empowerment :)I end it where I begin..the rally brings back good memories to me :)
